On this trip students will visit two important museums in Bordeaux: the Mus茅e des Beaux听Arts, whose holdings include portraits by Renaissance and later masters, and the CAPC听collection of contemporary art. Unesco named Bordeaux a World Heritage Site for its听beautiful architecture and urban planning, but also because of its rich cultural legacy. The听city鈥檚 most famous son, Michel de Montaigne, invented the personal essay as a literary form听and even served as mayor from 1581 to 1585. We will visit the ch芒teau where he did most听of his writing, and take another excursion to a vineyard in the surrounding wine country.听Other activities include writing and drawing exercises, which, like our stops at museums听and sites of historical importance, are designed to complement the Firstbridge courses听Autobiographical Writing (where Montaigne鈥檚 essays are studied) and Introduction to听Drawing (where students learn how to do portraits and self-portraits).
