News from the Wine Society: Le Tricolore: Spring Quarter 2017 Sip-Off

The American University of Paris Wine Society was honored—for a second time this année scolaire—to be hosted by Olivier, owner of the cozy Bleu Olive Epicerie, for a charming evening tasting through some of France's most storied wine regions. Our first informal gathering of 2017—or, as we like to refer to it as, a Spring Quarter Sip-off—took place the evening of January 26 inside Bleu Olive's modern, cozy bistro, located rue de Grenelle in Paris's 7th arrondissement. Throughout the duration of the soirée, Olivier introduced us to eclectic, organic, and innovative wines from small-batch producers, paired with scumptious cheeses, pâtés, and charcuterie that complemented the rich flavors selected for the evening.

The evening opened with a tasty, biodynamic white: Domaine Fouassier Sancerre, Les Grands Groux 2014: a delightful, organic wine from the Southwest of France. We then traveled to the Rhône to taste a ravishing red: Saint-Joseph, AOC, 2014, from Jean-Michel Gérin. But the overall favorite of the evening was a perfectly balanced and 100% natural: 60% Cabernet, 30% Grenache, 10% Cinsault Côteaux de l'Ardèche, a wine mélange with delectable harmony. Merci beaucoup to Olivier and the entire Bleu Olive team for hosting us for a delicious flight through French varietals, and for privatizing your wonderful locale. And a special thank you to Sam and Evelyn, two executive team members, for having helped execute and document the night.
