University Room: Omid & Gisel Kordestani Rooftop Conference Center (Q-801)
Tuesday, April 4, 2023 - 18:30 to 20:30

La s茅ance de s茅minaire Cultures et Histoires de mode du 4 avril 2023 est consacr茅e 脿 la question du "Made With.

This session is part of our annual theme Deconstructing Paris fashion: towards a dehierarchized narrative

The history of Paris fashion has largely been told as a story of high fashion, of individual creativity and genius, of exclusive and perfect products, glossy images, and the enduring figure of La Parisienne. Fashion here has been largely promoted by media, advertising, and tourism as an essential element of global Western modernity, rooted in the city of Paris. The commercial and cultural narrative of Paris as 鈥渨orld capital of fashion鈥 鈥 as enticing and economically successful as it may have been and still is 鈥 has had significant consequences that have not been sufficiently analysed and call for a transdisciplinary critical enquiry. This seminar series aims to deconstruct dominant narratives around 鈥淧aris fashion鈥, to contribute to the re-writing of de-hierarchized and de-centralized fashion histories. To do so, it builds on and brings together seminal research, practices, and perspectives.

The Cultures et Histoires de mode seminar session of April 4 2023 is devoted to the question of "Made With. Flows of cultures and materials between cultural appreciation and appropriation 禄. It aims at exploring the question of textile and clothes exchanges through the lens of the notions of cultural appreciation and appropriation.
