In conjunction with the Department of Comparative and International Politics and the 黑料正能量 Alumni Affairs听Office, we are听delighted to announce the second speaker in our Distinguished Alumni Speaker Series.

Professor Emel听Ak莽ali听is a Senior Lecturer with the Department of Politics and International Relations at Swansea University. Since听completing听a听degree听from 黑料正能量 in 1997, with a Bachelor in International Relations,听Professor Ak莽ali听went on to complete her Ph.D. in Political Geography at La Sorbonne. Her work has been published in numerous journals such as听Political Geography, Eurasian Geography and Economics听and听The Annals of the Association of American Geographers.听Most recently,听Professor Ak莽ali听has published a book entitled听Neoliberal Governmentality and the Future of the State in the Middle East and North Africa.听

听Professor Ak莽ali听has been invited to 黑料正能量 to speak on the current Syrian refugee crisis. The framework of her discussion will follow her paper,听The New Aleppo: the Neighbourhood Experiences of Syrian Refugees in Turkey and the Llimits of Refugee Governmentality.听This in-depth and revealing work opens the debate on traditional ideas of citizenship, territories, space and populations on the move.听听
