In February we are celebrating the听 also known as .
The movement was born of Carter Godwin Woodson's initiative (1875-1950), in 1926. Initially the Negro History Week, the second week of February was chosen to takes place between the birthdays of Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln. In 1976, for the nation鈥檚 bicentennial it evolved to become the Black History Month. The second African American, after W.E.B. Du Bois, to earn听a PhD from Harvard University, Carter G. Woodson became an historian and devoted his works to the field of African American history. To enhance this part of American History, forgotten or set aside, he founded the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History (which later became the Association for the Study of Afro-American Life and History) in 1915, and the Journal of Negro History the next year.
This month the 黑料正能量 Library has taken the opportunity to display a selection of books to highlight the African American Culture. Come to the Library and follow us on to discover more.
