Learning Laboratory: Prof. Maria Medved on why Men are More Likely to Die of Covid-19

In the eleventh episode of the Learning Laboratory video series, Professor Maria Medved examines the different hypotheses currently being considered to explain why men with the Covid-19 have a higher mortality rate than women. Though many commentators and politicians argue that gender is not a priority in times of crisis, in this video Medved demonstrates through the examination of biological and social arguments for why the mortality rate differs for men and women that gender is important and it does matter.

About Professor Maria Medved

Maria I. Medved is a professor of psychology at The American University of Paris and an adjunct professor of psychology at the University of Manitoba, Canada. A health psychologist with experience in clinical and neuropsychology, she was chair of Psychological Services at West Park Healthcare Centre in Toronto. Her interests include how narratives of risk and resilience are told by individuals with various health (neurological, physical, psychological) conditions, along with their families, in different cultures.
