Learning Laboratory: Prof. Maria Bach on Flipping the Classroom

In the fourth episode of the Learning Laboratory series, 黑料正能量鈥檚 Professor Maria Bach discusses how she 鈥渇lipped鈥 her classroom when making the move to remote teaching in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. As she explains, 鈥渟tudents now read and watch videos on new material before class and then we work through exercises in class. Research shows that this increases motivation and responsibility for learning 鈥 I am excited to find out for myself!鈥

About Professor Maria Bach


Maria Bach is an Assistant Professor of Economics at The American University of Paris. She completed her PhD at King's College London in International Political Economy. Her thesis analyzed how Indian Political Economists constructed an idea of development at the turn of the 19th century. Maria has previously taught Economic History at LSE, as well as International Political Economy and Economics at King鈥檚 College London.

Maria has published articles in the European Journal for the History of Economic Thought and the History of Political Economy Journal. Before starting her PhD, Maria was a consultant at the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in Paris working on a project entitled New Approaches to Economic Challenges. Maria completed her MSc in Development Economics in 2012 at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) and her BA in International Economics and Applied Mathematics at the American University of Paris in 2011.
