Saturday, October 14, 2017 - 09:00 to Tuesday, October 17, 2017 - 20:00

CM5001 Global Communications

Founded in 808, Fès is often called “the best preserved mediaeval city” in North Africa. Held to be Morocco’s
spiritual capital, it is both magnet for pilgrims from sub-Saharan Africa and a major draw for tourists in
search of “something cultural.” Examine globalization, in Fès and its impact on a traditional society and its
systems of communication. See how Fès’ authorities are using festivals to encourage tourism and brand
the city. Attend events at the Festival of Sufi Culture during the trip. A day-trip to the Roman site of Volubilis
is also planned.

Led by Prof. Waddick Doyle
