Professor Rast received her Habilitation à diriger des recherches from the Université Grenoble Alpes and her doctorate from the Université Paris 8 in linguistics with a specialization in adult second/third language acquisition. Her research focuses on the role that a learner's linguistic environment (foreign language input) plays in the acquisition process. She works with an interdisciplinary research team, Structures formelles du langage comprised of university faculty and CNRS researchers. Current projects include ALACIE (Appropriation Linguistique et Accueil des Chercheurs et Intellectuels en EXIL) and Groupement d'Intérêt Scientifique en Acquisition des Langues Secondes (GIS RéAL2). She also collaborates on a European project Varieties of Initial Learners in Language Acquisition (VILLA).

Rast has taught English and linguistics at the American University of Paris since 1992. Courses include teacher training (Pedagogical Grammar and TESOL Methodologies), English (all levels of writing), and linguistics (Introduction to Linguistics; Psycholinguistics; Language and Migration; Language Acquisition and Social Policy; Languages of the World; Language Acquisition and Multilingualism).

Professor Nieblas arrived at The American University of Paris (��) in the beginning of the 1990s to teach in the Summer program and the French Immersion program. After working with different publics, namely in the “Planning and Education Department” of the UNESCO, the “Japanese delegation” of the OECD, the “Cours d’Adultes de la Mairie de Paris” (ACMA), the ESLSCA where she received an “Outstanding Professor Award”, and the Ecole des Mines, she joined the French department of �� as a language and drama teacher for the year.

She teaches all levels of language. Her interest for language acquisition has pushed her to study diverse languages, such as English, Spanish, Italian and German in high school and University. Besides – by curiosity – she initiated herself to other languages like Chinese, Japanese, Hebrew, Swedish. She collaborated to the elaboration of a language method… by phone!

She has also done translations for diverse reviews and worked as an interpreter for a disc production.
She – while continuing her studies – followed a drama formation at the Cours Simon, as well as other drama courses and workshops. She also worked as a professional actress with different drama companies, in Paris and elsewhere.
She is currently teaching a course on drama at �� – “Acting in French” – in addition to her language courses.

He's been teaching Arabic in �� since 2007 in both undergraduate and graduate programs.

His research focuses today in Arabic philosophy and its links with the knowledge of kalām (theology) and the realm of adab (literature and sciences).

Professor Laurent began teaching at �� in 2021. At ��, she teaches French as well as courses on Francophone cultures and literatures. Before joining ��, she taught Postcolonial Studies at Sciences Po - Saint-Germain-en-Laye in France, African and Comparative Literature at King's College London in England, and French Language and Romance Literatures at Harvard University in the United States.

Laurent's research deals with twentieth- and twenty-first-century French and Francophone literatures and cultures, with special emphasis on Metropolitan France, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Southeast Asia. Her book manuscript, The Words of Others: Remembering and Writing Genocide as an Indirect Witness, examines literary and graphic representations of genocidal violence. She focuses on the Holocaust, the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda, and the Khmer Rouge genocide and mass killings in Cambodia. Specifically, by connecting the authors’ representational strategies to critical theories related to memory studies, she examines how indirect witnesses, that is individuals who did not literally or personally experience genocide, problematize their own testimonial acts. Her newest project entitled Connected Histories of (Post)Coloniality: Circulation and Reception of Art Representing a Diverse Francophone Past considers the representation and dissemination of histories through art forms, with the aim of dismantling a monolithic national(istic) narrative. By insisting on their creation, their circulation, and their reception, she shows how these historical representations encourage the formation of a new heritage that encompasses different communities. The foregoing creative processes also point to their perpetual transformation that would allow for new decolonized epistemologies and ways to illuminate the past in a context which is Francophone, but also alive in its plural, global, as well as multilingual realities.

Professor Hobart began teaching at The American University of Paris in 2008 while working on doctoral degrees at both Harvard University and the Université de Paris-Sorbonne. At ��, he teaches within the departments of Comparative Literature and French Studies, and in the English Writing Program. Recent courses include The Bible, Shakespeare in Context, The Fantastic Nature of Things, and The World, the Text and the Critic I. He has also taught courses on English and American literature, French and francophone language and literature, translation, cultural studies, and American history and civilization at institutions including the Université de Paris Nanterre, the Université d’Orléans, the Université de Cergy-Pontoise, the Institut d’Études Politiques (Lille), the Institut catholique de Paris and Harvard University.

His first book, La Peste à la Renaissance, published by Classiques Garnier in 2020(https://classiques-garnier.com/la-peste-a-la-renaissance-l-imaginaire-d-un-fleau-dans-la-litterature-au-xvie-siecle.html), was awarded the 2021 Prix Monseigneur Marcel by the Academie Française for best book in the field of History of Philosophy(https://www.academie-francaise.fr/brenton-hobart). It studies the literary representations of epidemics known as plague in 16th-century France, exploring how French authors perpetuate the idea of the disease through their translations of classical, biblical and medieval texts, while intertwining imitation, personal experience and invention in their own writings. His publications include studies on poetry and prose from Classical Antiquity in 15th- and 16th-century translation, the Bible, early Christian writings and the writers of the Reformation, medieval medical writings, as well as a variety of Renaissance genres in works by Boccaccio (novella), Clément Marot (poetry), François Rabelais (novel), Nostradamus (prophecy), Pierre Boaistuau (compilation), Ambroise Paré (medical treatise), Étienne de La Boétie (political discourse), Michel de Montaigne (essay and travel literature) and Agrippa d’Aubigné (epic poetry). He is currently working on a second monograph covering the works of Rabelais.

Professor Harding came to The American University of Paris (��) in 1987 after doing research at the University of Cambridge on the development of modernist poetry, focusing on the relations of epic and hermetic writing. In the Comparative Literature and French programs at �� he has taught courses on European romanticisms, modern British literature, modern American poetry and poetics, theatre in Paris, contemporary French fiction, and literature and the visual arts. He also teaches in the English writing program, and formerly taught creative writing. He has lectured and written on contemporary art and contemporary poetry, having set up an international contemporary art gallery and performance space in Edinburgh.

He writes and researches in the areas of poetry and poetics, narrative and performance, both anglophone and European. His work is currently focused on practices of embodiment and dislocation in late nineteenth-century realism, on the relations between the semantics of prosody and the cultural and social limits of a 'poetics of the real', centering on the writings of Henry James. He co-founded the European Society for Jamesian Studies and is a member of the British Academy research group for the study of literary reception. He also has an interest in literary translation, which he has long practised and taught.
